Four years ago, I wrote here at the Meat and Potatoes Blog about my fear that SC would make the '08 primary take a turn for the nasty and boy was I right! "McLame" won the primary and my hero Fred Thompson came in third. Fred dropped out not long afterwards and McCain went on to a stinging defeat at the hands of "Dumbo the Destroyer".
I remain firmly convinced that had Fred Thompson finished higher in SC, he could have gone on to win the southern primaries on "Super Tuesday" such as in Tennessee and Texas. The resulting momentum and money could have propelled him to a primary win and he surely would have wiped the floor with Barack Hussein Obama on election day.
I don't mean to single out the Palmetto State but the fact is, you folks down there are crucial because your primary is so early. Not unlike Iowa and New Hampshire, ya'll set the tone and with that privelege comes a big ole boatload of responsibility! In this regard, I feel like you may have led us astray once again. Uh oh!
Newt Gingrich is a risky bet because the enthusiasm he sends through electrified debate watchers may not necessarily translate into votes come election day in November. Let's face it, before SC when Newt stuck it to John King and the rest of the left-wing news media, nobody was all that excited about the former Speaker. Romney was the darling after two primary wins and omniscient political pundits were proclaiming the primaries all but over.
Far be it for Mister Meat and Taters to spoil the fun but I must be the eternal pragmatist. I support Rick Santorum because he is a cleaner, younger version of Newt Gingrich and best of all, he's more of a Constitutional conservative. Just my honest opinion.
