I hope many of you found my analogy that America is at its "Crimson Tide Moment" to be spot on. Last night I popped in a dusty ole VCR tape and decided to watch the movie from many years ago. I'm an ex-Navy officer and must say the scenes are well done with proper jargon and procedures which bring back memories like they were yesterday. Some good, some bad...haha.
I decided to write an addendum to my previous blog and implore you to rent the movie or pop it in ASAP if you have it. Fast forward (68 mins from start) to the scene I speak of, where USS Alabama (SSBN-731) has been hit and is slowly sinking. IN YOUR MIND, IMAGINE ALABAMA TO BE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, METAPHORICALLY SPEAKING. As you see the water flooding into the submarine, imagine that to be our nation's gargantuan debt (now totalling 19 trillion including Fannie/Freddie liabilities).
Trust me folks, as you watch this 5 minute scene, you will be overwhelmed by the power of my "Crimson Tide Moment" analogy. As the sub drifts into an underwater abyss more than 1,500 feet deep, completely out of control, while people desperately work to save the day, you will see the parallels. America drifts out of control, 120 billion dollars of debt per month flooding in, our dollar is in crisis (Australia will pass parity with our dollar next week!) and people like Rep. Paul Ryan, Rep. Eric Cantor, myself, yourself and many others are working desperately to save our nation from financial doom.
But here's the REAL question: Who is playing the part of Ricky Schroder (LT Hellerman) in today's America? Who will shut the hatch on the massive deficit spending which threatens to sink our nation, possibly forever? The answer....MUST be the voters.

Bonus Meat 'n Taters Quip for the Day: If "Crimson Tide" were filmed modern day (instead of 1995), the reporting of events in Russia would not be by CNN (the Communist News Network). Rather, it would be done by Fox News Channel! :-)
