Those who read this blog with any regularity know that I'm extremely proud (and even a tad boastful) about living in the "Volunteer State". My time here has only been a short period, yet I know this is where I'll spend the rest of my years. The only other state where I would consider living is one with an awesome governor named Rick Perry but it's just too dang hot out there in Texas!
People all over Tennessee, out in small towns like Washburn, Sneedville, Bean Station and Luttrell exemplify the spirit of rugged individualism and personal responsibility that built this country over the past couple centuries. These people stand for a hard day's work, honesty and they love their freedom guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. What some of them may not know...is that our Constitution is under an almost daily assault from leftists (i.e. statists, socialists, Marxists, communists) who have seized power in Washington, DC and are relentless in their quest to "transform America".
Who will protect Tennessee from this threat going forward over the next 4 years? The answer is Congressman Zach Wamp (R-TN3). For 15 years, Zach Wamp has been in our nation's House of Representatives, fighting to protect our Constitution's ORIGINAL INTENT and stop the assault of people who "never met a freedom they truly liked". Unlike Pilot Oil Corporation magnate Bill Haslam, who has served as Mayor of Knoxville for 6 1/2 years, Zach has a FIFTEEN YEAR VOTING RECORD. If you've attended City Council meetings as I have, you've noticed Mayor Haslam being careful to "sit the fence" on controversial issues, more on that later. So the question begs asking: How DO YOU KNOW where the Mayor stands on challenging issues which will affect our children's futures, when there is no verifiable record for reference?
By going to a non-partisan voting statistic site called www.OnTheIssues.org you can ascertain Wamp's level of Constitutional devotion and dedication to preserving the traditional America we know and love. Heck, I packed up and escaped Massachusetts 10 years ago because the "old America" was gone up there. I'm determined to keep it here in Tennessee!
Let's say you are dedicated to preserving life. By going to the "On The Issues" website, you'll see that Zach Wamp has a 100% rating with pro-life groups. You'll also snicker when you see that the pro-abortion group NARAL gave him a 0% rating! Perhaps you're a bit concerned with the ability to protect your family and property with a firearm? Just page down to the 2nd Amendment section and you'll see that Zach has an "A" rating with the NRA. You can also look at any votes he's cast on applicable gun issues.
Speaking of gun issues...... Remember that little issue in Knoxville with "right-to-carry in parks"? Where did Mayor Haslam stand when it came up before the City Council for a vote? Nobody knows because Mayor Haslam sat that fence like a true politician. Ultimately, the resolution was defeated due to fear-mongering by the anti-gunners and a lack of leadership by Mr. Mayor but that's ok because Knox County (where I live and frolic) passed the SAME type of resolution for its parks. Would you believe Rep. Zach Wamp, as a TRUE STATESMAN made his strong support of the resolution widely known and even attended the Knox County Commissioners' meeting? Now I can't give ole Zach credit for the resolution's success but I'd like to think he had a tiny bit of influence on the outcome! :-)
Folks, I'm not going to pontificate here ad nauseum about how much I respect and admire Zach Wamp for his dedication to our nation and its Constitution. I'll leave you to do your own research "on the issues" from now until August 5th. Let me say that while I also admire and respect Mayor Haslam, I'm not willing to place the future security of Tennessee in the hands of a Mayor Michael Bloomberg-style plutocrat at this crucial juncture. I'm afraid he will equivocate and sell us out like John McCain, Lamar Alexander and other pseudo-Republicans. The times we face are just too daunting and the consequences of a wrong decision could be devastating to our state's future. Just take a look at Michigan! I work up there and I can tell you it's a mess.
Watch the TNGOV debates either on Youtube or CSPAN.org and you'll see that Zach Wamp is a man of character, experience, conviction, vision and most important of all....moral courage. He put everything on the line and stood up for our troops in Iraq when THEY NEEDED HIM THE MOST!
