Setting Limits on Government

We all need limits.  Limits on speed in our cars, how late our children should be out and how much we should drink at the local pub.  But who sets the limits on spending by our federal government?  For the past few decades.....it seems nobody.

I'm a huge fan of Ronald Reagan but for all his leadership in massive achievements, what was the one thing he could not accomplish? Get a democRAT-controlled Congress of spendthrifts to reign in federal spending in the 1980's.  Leftist demagogues will blame deficits of the 80's on tax-cuts but those with more brains than a houseplant and more honesty than Bill Clinton will admit this just isn't so.  Reagan tax-cuts more than DOUBLED REVENUES to the U.S. Treasury by the end of Reagan's term.

No, no.  It was runaway spending by a gargantuan federal "government gone wild" which gave us deficits you can believe in!  In 1989, our total federal debt was about 2.5 trillion dollars.  Today it stands at 12.4 trillion, an increase of 500%.  The Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Act of the mid-80's was a half-baked attempt to limit spending but was found un-Constitutional by an activist Supreme Court.  Where do we set the limit folks?

Recently, I stumbled across a worn-out, forgotten book at a used book store.  Its pages yellowed from the effects of age, this book would make an impact on me so massive that I lay awake at night thinking about it.  The concepts espoused within this book are as applicable today as they were 20 years ago.  Why?  Because the subject matter is TIMELESS:  Constitutionally-limited-government.

When Lewis K. Uhler wrote "Setting Limits: Constitutional Control of Government" in 1989, I doubt he knew he was writing a book that should and WILL become the "BIBLE FOR THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT" in America.  I urge those who believe in this movement to pick up the book and be blown away by how prescient Uhler was in his analysis.  The book could have been written yesterday!

Lest you get any ideas...... No, I'm not shilling for Lewis Uhler, I don't even know the man.  But I sure as heck would love to sit down and have lunch with him while discussing MY favorite subject:  How to save America from utter financial collapse.  A man far ahead of his time, Uhler is a fascinating intellectual and "Constitutionalist" who never received the attention he deserved.

America better pay him attention before it's too late.  Our debt is piling up at an astounding rate.  China is dumping our Treasury Bonds to anyone who will buy them.  The dollar is losing value quicker than ever while interest rates are silently starting to climb.

This is the recipe for our ultimate demise......
