What's this I hear? democRATs on Capitol Hill whispering ideas of Tort Reform. Nawwww, it couldn't be. This might alienate one of the most loyal democRAT constituency groups out there which pumps millions into their coffers. Yes, I'm talking about those moral, upstanding, always beloved trial lawyers. Just imagine a picture of John Edwards' new baby at this time folks! :-)
The "Blue Dog" democRATs (notice I didn't say conservative) are begging for some sort of Tort Reform to be added to this "Obama-Care" bill. But does everyone out there know the following? WE COULD'VE HAD TORT REFORM 14 YEARS AGO!
That's right, it was called "The Common Sense Legal Reform Act of 1995" and it was one of the 10 items in the famous and somewhat successful Republican "Contract With America". I was out of work at the time (long story) and I watched every day of those first 100 days of the Gingrich-led House, the first GOP controlled House in 40 years mind you. It was awesome to watch Gingrich in action, stuffing the convoluted leftist logic right back in the face of stupid reporters in a way that only "Mister Newt" could accomplish.
Tort Reform passed the House of Representatives 265-161 on 3/10/95 and then the Senate 61-37 on 5/11/95, guess what happened to it next? It never became law so someone stepped in and screwed things up! Now who could that be? Of course, it was the "Father of 9/11", Bill Clinton himself who got out his "veto pen" and shut the legislation down by presidential fiat.
The reason we don't have Tort Reform today is because "Mister Perjury" had to take care of his trial lawyer buddies and that's a simple, indisputable fact of history. Medical costs are higher today because of a democRAT president, 'nuff said!
