The NEW "War": Public vs. Private Sector

Do I focus on the subject of "war" too much in this column?  Whether it be a real war or a metaphorical one, I do cover the subject quite a bit here at the Meat and Potatoes Blog.  The reason?  Defining a battle is very important when you have opponents who are at odds with one another and the stakes of their fight will dictate the nation's future.  As I've said before, the 'Information War' we fight everyday is just as important as the War on Terror we fight against Islamo-Fascists.  We lose either one of these wars and the nation's future is put in peril.

This NEW war I speak about is essentially a war on people in the private sector, in other words people who do not work for government.

These people in the private sector are losing jobs everyday and losing their retirements via the stock market implosion.  Meanwhile, those in the public sector are being employed in record numbers and look forward to 'fat cat' government pensions which will allow them to live in style.  The recent global warming here in East Tennessee had me visiting the Smoky Mountains yesterday and I got to see the public sector in action with all sorts of government employees leaning on their shovels.  Why not let a group of 5 do the job of 2 right?  Suddenly, my springtime mood of fun and frivolity turned sour and I struggled to enjoy the rest of my day.  I told my travel companion, "Look at all those park employees sitting around.  They remind me of the baggage screeners at the airport who are overstaffed to the gills."

Here's what I wrote a few days ago in a column called "And I thought slavery was over....."

"The next time you bump into someone who works in the public sector, ask them if they get a pension.  Ask them if they get health and dental insurance in their retirement years, then ask what age they will take retirement.  You'll be infuriated deep down to know that alot of these government workers are retiring in their early to mid 50's with a lifetime salary and benefits package that will make you drool.

I don't know about you but the word retirement never passes through my lips for a singular reason, I have none.  I will never retire and have to likely work until the day I die.  Social IN-Security will go bankrupt long before someone born in the 1960's can collect benefits and medicare will go insolvent even before that.  Most of us born after the 'baby-boomers' will awaken to a new reality in America and that is a lifetime without the ability to retire.

We are the 'new slavery class' and a government growing out of control with millions of 'fat cat' public sector employees is the reason."
