As a proud American patriot I'm here to say that I've never owned a foreign car. My first car was a 61 Chevy Bel-Air and I loved that primo automobile with all my heart. I culminated my love affair with GM 3 years ago when I bought a torch red Corvette and there isn't one scintilla of regret in my psyche for purchasing "Roxanne". But I'm going to shock you folks when I say that I am on the precipice to never buying an American made automobile EVER AGAIN.
"Why oh why Mr. Meat and Taters? That's unpatriotic of you to say you'll never "Buy American" again." Au contraire folks, when "Buy American" becomes "buy from a subsidized welfare recipient" I start to sour in the enthusiasm department. Call it silly but that's just me.
Let's face it folks, these American auto companies are being subsidized with stacks of "Auto stamps" which reach to the heavens! We're not talking a few hundred thousand worth like your neighbors on the "bad side of the tracks" who enjoy the finest milk, ice cream, bread and other products at your expense. We are talking 17 BILLION DOLLARS for starters with billions more to come, trust me. How is it a free enterprise system when government takes taxpayer wealth on such a grandiose scale and gives it to companies suffering from the abuses of union contracts gone wild and poor management decisions? I'm scratching my head over that one, big time.
Let me tell you when the UAW blew it with me. It was when Ron Gettelfinger went after my U.S. Senator, Bob Corker and claimed that he was only trying to tear down the unions not attempt to fix this automobile manufacturing fiasco. Such lowdown demagoguery is the hallmark of liberal Democrat politicians on Capitol Hill Mr. Gettelfinger, I didn't know you were running for office! Let me say that I have watched Senator Bob Corker in no less than 10 separate interviews and I am positive that he has the best interests of the United States in his heart. He was truly out to bring all sides of this fiasco to the bargaining table in order to restore the US automobile companies to profitability. If you don't believe me, either Youtube some of his interviews or go to
www.foxnews.com and watch the Viewer Video with your own eyeballs. Once you see the true sincerity displayed by this man, a fledgling senator who is by no means a Clinton-esque communicator, you'll know that Gettelfinger is full of nothing but BS!
If you go back and re-read the first paragraph of my diatribe you'll notice that I left myself some wiggle-room on never buying American again in the automobile department. Reason? I hope and pray that the UAW will come to their senses and take the steps necessary to avert disaster. Perhaps with time and education, the workers will realize that it makes no sense to have a company like GM so strapped with LEGACY COSTS that they are trying to sell cars fast enough merely to pay retirees' their benefits packages! Gee, I thought GM was supposed to be a CAR company not a medical and dental insurance company? Someone help me to understand where I'm going wrong here. My feeble brain sometimes has trouble grasping the obvious so provide much needed tutelage with a comment.
Merry Christmas by the way, be sure to say it to everyone as a way of pi$$ing off the leftist, counter-culturalist scum. :-)
