Governor Palin..some quick thoughts

First of all, if you are visiting for the "Denver:  Land of misfit toys" article, just page down a bit and you'll see it about 5 entries ago.  You will enjoy the entry, it's a hoot.  Now about Sarah Palin, I have some thoughts and they're brief thoughts since I just got home from three days of flying and my brains are absolute mush.

The Sarah Palin pick was an absolute shocker for me and the more I learn about it, the more it seems to be brilliant!  Her appeal will be stunning (as is her appearance...haha) because she is the kind of person, friend, wife, mother and politician that many of us in today's society wish we could find.  Some of what I've heard and researched thus far:

1)  She believes in the sanctity of human life, first and foremost.  Did you know she chose to have a child despite prior knowledge that the child had Down Syndrome?  This woman is a compassionate nurturer and a phenomenal example to young women who've not yet learned all of life's lessons.

2)  In the spirit of Ronald Reagan, she is a staunch conservative who has a record of holding the line on spending and sticking to constitutional priorities that dictate how and when our government acts.  Her experience is limited but it is varied as she worked in the private sector before becoming a mayor of a small city and then governor of Alaska.  She brings valuable EXECUTIVE experience that is sorely lacking in this field of candidates, particularly on the Democrat side of the aisle.

3)  She's a staunch fighter of corruption, special interests and "politics as usual".  As governor, she fought fellow Republicans such as the Murkowski's and Ted Stevens, an Alaska senator who is awaiting trial for corruption.  Taking on these powerful people is demonstrative of a character trait that is so absent in today's political climate:  MORAL COURAGE.

4)  She's smart, witty, charismatic, vivacious and articulate (Thank-God!).  Such a person has the potential to make conservatives proud by communicating what it means to be a rugged individual and to be self-reliant.  In other words, how to be a conservative.

I've written many times in this column about "Women Sliding Downhill", have you read any of these entries?  Whether it be Casey Anthony back in jail tonight, a story about a woman drowning her 4 children in a bathtub or pop culture divas driving drunk and showing off their private parts for the paparazzi, today's young women are THIRSTING for a female role model to inspire them!  Imagine if your daughter could sit down and watch Vice President Sarah Palin make a speech about the importance of having strong women in American society?  The influence of watching such a person set the example is absolutely incalcuable.  Think about it!
