Why is Oprah so nervous?

I thought Oprah was trying to feel like Tyra Banks yesterday as I watched her amble down the runway at the first "Don't tell mama, I'm voting for Obama" event.  She took me back in time for a minute as I realized "she looks pretty good", then I laughed at the thought of an ex-girlfriend who would force me to watch HER or nothing else!

I remembered the Oprah of yesteryear as a smooth operator but was surprised and even a little shocked to see her nervous and obviously insecure.  Bumbling and fumbling, Oprah found herself far from the controlled atmosphere of a Chicago studio with its legions of assistants who provide notes and hold up cue-cards.  I'll bet that Ophrah is no stranger to ad lib, impromptu speaking but it is one thing when the subject matter is baking cookies, managing family finances or keeping the kitchen "bacteria-free".  Political matters are infinitely complex and it takes extreme, unending devotion to keep up-to-speed on them.

Just think for a moment about the breadth and magnitude of issues that confront this country going foward.  As you think about bankrupt government programs, global competition, illegal immigration gone wild, a broken criminal justice system, a housing market implosion, kids growing up without fathers.....goodness gracious the list goes on and on.  Don't you feel like the high school student who has a 100 page term paper due in 12 hours and you haven't started it yet?  It is easy to become ignorant about these issues as you try to take care of your family, maintain your home and keep your sanity at work.  Oprah's performance at the "Osama Obama" rally yesterday shows you exactly what I'm talking about because I am convinced that for the first time in Oprah's professional career, she had no idea what she was talking about.  Would that make you nervous?   In fact,  I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that Oprah is unable to specifically articulate ON AN ISSUES BASIS why she supports Obama so ardently.  So what's the moral of my story?

DON'T BE AN OPRAH!  Pick some personal "hot-button" issues, do your research and be able to rattle off 4 or 5 reasons why you support a certain candidate and don't just have the reasons be vagaries like:  "Well he seems to care about me" and "She really seems to have fire in her belly."  For example, I am currently a Fred Thompson supporter and I can specifically and succintly tell you why:

1)  he is a traditionalist who believes in a distinct culture which defines us as AMERICANS.
2)  he is a proud patriot who loves this country and the military that protects our freedom.
3)  he is a free market capitalist who believes in low taxation to promote economic activity.
4)  he believes that illegal immigration is wrong and must not  be tolerated.
5)  he believes in the rugged individualism and self-reliance that built this country.
6)  he is a Constitutionalist who believes in limited government and the Bill of Rights.

How's that for not being an Oprah?  See what I mean by specific and succint?  Now, you may not agree with why I support Fred and that's fine by me.  So long as you can calmly explain in an intellectual manner, why you support the person you support, I have the utmost respect for you.  I may disagree with you like the dickens but that's what makes politics so much fun, the debating phase...... so as Judge Mills Lane used to say, "LET'S GET IT ON"!
