I don't know if he ate too much maple syrup as a kid, but Vermont's Peter Welch has got to be the dumbest man in the U.S. Congress. Joe Biden, the Human Copier has now slipped to number two, sorry there Joe!
Congressman Welch was throwing his hat in the ring for the Energy Bill on C-SPAN just now and he actually made a series of statements that were doozies! Now, let me preface by saying that I have been a C-SPAN viewer for about 15 years and boy ohhhh boy, there have been some classics. I heard one Dumb-O-Crat claim that American slave trade resulted in so many people being thrown overboard that the sharks still swim the route to this day, looking for food! hahaha How bout this one? During the Contract with America in 1995, a Congressman from GA (I think) got up and said that Newt Gingrich would come in the night and take away our children, the sick and the elderly so that he could kick them into the gutter.
Peter's statements weren't that flamboyant but they were equally stupid. Attempting to take both sides of the "energy connundrum" that plagues our country, he made statements that directly contradicted one another. He started off by pandering to the environmentalist nutcases with the: "Our nation's wilderness is a precious resource that cannot be sacrificed for corporate greed...." line and then quickly switched to a national defense posture by stating "....but we know that we cannot allow our oil consumption habit to fund countries which sponsor terrorism and threaten our national security." Isn't that a clever attempt by Peter to have it both ways?
Well it might work on the dunderheads but it won't work on this "gas guzzler"! What are we going to do to fuel our economy Mister Welch? Are we going to drive little buckboards like in "Little House on the Prairie"? Come on dude, GET REAL!!! We have a growing population and growing vehicle fleet due to changes in our society. The biggest change is that BOTH parents work, primarily to pay the huge tax bite of government, Mr. Welch. So what is your solution, sir? We just increase MPG requirements and keep our fingers crossed like a bunch of hopeless fools? I think not.
These Dumb-O-Crats cannot have it both ways, not with clear thinking intellectual Americans. Either you are for increasing DOMESTIC SUPPLY of that evil liquid known as oil or you are for importing it from other countries, some of which HATE OUR GUTS and seek to fund terrorism with the profits. You can increase MPG standards all you want Mister Welch but it will be like taking a whizz on a forest fire! It won't do a whole heck of alot. Now, for the record, your humble correspondent at the "Meat and Potatoes Blog" is BIG on conservation and do you know the reason why? Well, I'm not going to tell you. I'm going to recommend that you go back to the archive and view a column titled "Do you drive like a Wa$teful Fool?" Once you read it, your horizons will be broadened immeasurably and you will be thanking me profusely for the wisdom.
