Tennessee: The State that saved the Nation in 2000!

Those of you who have seen "The Alamo" starring Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton know the proud historical tradition of Tennessee and its Volunteers.  What you may not know, is that the tradition of doing the right thing when it matters most was revisited in 2000 during a squeaky close presidential election that will go down in history!

Tell me....why did Al Gore lose the presidential election that year?  If you answered, "Well because he lost the state of Florida in a tied election that went to the U.S. Supreme Court", you are absolutely and unequivocally incorrect!  The correct answer is because he could not win the 11 electoral votes in his OWN HOMESTATE!  Do you know how rare this is?  Well let me put it this way, even in 1984 when the biggest presidential landslide in US history occurred, Walter Mondale won his OWN HOMESTATE of Minnesota. :)

Examine the historical events that were put into place that day.  George W. Bush became president after all the legal wrangling, the "chickens came home to roost" from 8 years of Clinton-era neglect of terrorism/foreign policy and the phenomenal disaster of 9/11 had to be addressed.  Have you ever sat down, closed your eyes and imagined the reaction to 9/11 had Al Gore been in office instead of George W. Bush?  I've done it a few times and felt as if I was dreaming a nightmare extraordinaire!  If you're a person of cognitive ability (and not a short sighted dunderhead), you must acknowledge that Tennessee is the state that saved the union in 2000.

If you desire to understand HOW George W. Bush was able to snatch Gore's home turf away from him, you need to go "micro" and examine the "Red/Blue Map" from 2000.  Examination of said map will reveal that big cities such as Memphis and Nashville went blue as blue can be!  Gee, I wonder why? haha  For that matter, many counties in WEST Tennessee went for Gore but take a drive down Interstate 40 East and come visit the traditional, downhome, patriotic, military loving Americans in EAST Tennessee.  Once you get past Cookeville, TN the political picture changed markedly in 2000.  Every Eastern county elected George W. Bush except for one, the lovely meth-lab infested Campbell county but we won't talk about them folks!  Bottom line is this:  East Tennessee saved the nation in 2000 by s***canning a guy who is nicknamed the "Tennessee Two by Four" by local yokels and the "Inconvenient Windbag" by yours truly.  American history was changed for the better by what happened here and I am proud to call such a place "home sweet home"!
